GENERAL: - Immunization. - If you are planning your own Health Insurance make sure you have the appropriate contract numbers. - Talk to your family doctor or Travel Medical Clinic [Telephone: (416) 461-2419] and ask if you need any vaccination (such as Hepatitis A or B). Also ask if your tetnus booster is required. - Decide whether to bring sun glasses and sun block if you are traveling to a tropical location. - Make sure that your medications and prescriptions are properly labeled. BAGGAGE: Please check the website of your transpacific airlines for allowances (weight & dimension) about both checks-in and carry-on luggage. Please not that for domestic flight within China, each passenger is allowed to take less check-in Baggage(s) which does NOT exceed 20kg in weight & 115 cm (45 in) in size. DRESS: Casual dress with a jacket and a raincoat (or umbrella) will be sufficient for covering most parts of the trip. It is recommend for you to take some cotton clothing and comfortable walking or sport shoes for any possible scenarios where you may travel on foot. There are laundry services in all the hotels; Sun block, sun glasses and a cap (covering the back of your neck) will be necessary in some situations as well. There are no specific dress codes for special evening events; as all the events are for international tourists like you. Please not that the aforementioned may not apply to some business travelers or some passengers who will attend special events. MEDICINE: To be well prepared for the trip, you may need to bring medication such us painkillers (i.e., Tylenol, Advil, et cetera), drugs which aid in digestion and cases of stomach flu, and any prescription drugs that you may take on a regular basis. It si advised that you bring more than enough (in case of unexpected circumstances) to cover the entire duration of your trip. It is also advised that you bring hand sanitizer or moist tissue papers for multiple purposes during your trip. MONEY: You may use all major credit cards (Visa; Master Card; American Express, Diner Club et cetera) in most major shopping centres and the hotels we have booked for you. Credit card charges are made as soon as you make the transaction. In the case of using interact, there are charges at both ends for any withdrawals. In addition, you may also need to carry some traveler cheques (for the safety concern) and cash (in small denominations; i.e., $1.00 bills) for shopping, tipping and incidental expenses. Please note that traveler cheque and credit card may NOT be accepted in some remote areas. ELECTRICAL OUTLETS: In all the hotels which we have booked for you , there are dual electric systems in the bathroom : • A 220V version – for local Chinese or Asian travelers; • A 110V version – for North American travelers; BEVERAGE: It is insisted that you DO NOT DRINK the tap water in your hotel or on your cruise ship. Always carry bottles of mineral water with you during your daily trip. If you prefer alcohol, you may purchase some at the Duty Free Shop at the airport of international gateway (I am not sure if you should capitalise this) or the port before you board the cruise ship, the beverages (alcohol or non-alcohol) aboard the ship are extremely expensive. However the water is safe to use for hygienic purposes. (Omitted the rest because it is unnecessary) PASSPORT & VISA: Please prepare a spare copy of your passport and store it safely; in case of any unexpected circumstances which may render your original passport unusable. In this case, you may simply make use of the copy of your passport and contact the Consulate General of Canada to inform them to prepare a new passport for you while you continue to enjoy the trip. NAME BADGE: It is asked that you wear your name badge as you exit the airport gate, and that you stand in a centre of the waiting hall (after retrieving your luggage) in order for your tour guide to located you; you are not required to search for them. FOOD: Always remember to consume the appropriate amount vitamin (i.e., via consumption of fruit or juice) from your meals. If you are allergic to certain foods (i.e., nuts), please inform your local tour guide at each point of destionation ASAP and they will make sure to keep your meals allergen-free. Water and ice cubes derived from tap water are unsafe even in 5-star hotels. It is strongly advised that you consume only bottled water or fountain water that are marked safe and confirmed to be so by your local tour guide. Tea, coffee, international brands of soft drinks (i.e., Evian, Perier, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, et cetera) as well as alcoholic beverages are also safe to consume. It is also advised that you consume only well cooked meat, fish, and vegetables (avoid consuming raw salads). Fruits should be carefully washed before consumed and raw berries should be avoided. And while breads and baked goods are safe, it is advised that you do not purchase food from street vendors before inquiring you local tour guide. DIARRHEA AND HOW TO TREAT IT: In case of mild diarrheas (likely caused by spicy foods), it is advised that you consume bland meals and that you consume a little extra fluid and salt.
